My Panel (Before and After)
My Tiger had KX170b’s with an old KLN89b gps. I was in the market to upgrade the radios when I saw the EFD1000 at Oshkosh. It was a perfect fit for the new panel. The guys at Avionics Unlimited in Conroe Texas did an outstanding job installing all the new radios and EFD.
My Aspen Experience
My flying has not changed, I still fly IFR as before, BUT it sure makes it easier and a lot safer. My primary attitude indicator no longer relies on an old vacuum pump. I have attached “Before,During,& After” pictures.

About Me
I’m an MD11 Captain with over 10,000hrs of flying in different aircraft with glass cockpits. When I first saw the EFD1000 at Oshkosh, I knew this is what my aircraft needed. I fly my Tiger about 25hrs a month between Houston and Dallas, and I can tell you that shooting an approach at night in marginal weather is 100 times easier with the Aspen. On top of giving you the “BIG Picture” it offers you redundancy with its battery backup power supply. I feel very comfortable knowing I no longer have to worry about a vacuum system driving my primary attitude indicator. My next airplane will get an EFD1000 if it hasn’t already got one. Now if Aspen could just make an affordable turbine engine I’d be set.
