My Panel (Before and After)
My aircraft was well equipped by early 1980’s standards. I wanted an IFR certified GPS panel so we installed a Garmin GNS 430, an MFD and upgraded the autopilot. After such an extensive upgrade it just didn’t make sense to keep flying behind those old steam gauges. Plus, without roll steering I was not realizing the full potential of my GPS and autopilot which makes the GPSS built into the Aspen EFD 1000 a major value added feature.
My Aspen Experience
In one word: “Amazing.” The operation is very intuitive and the unit very reliable. I did have some problems with the unit and the RSM early on but the folks at Aspen got me a new PFD and RSM and my good friends at General Avionics at KIWS in Houston who did the entire panel upgrade got me fixed up-my thanks to James Wurman, Dallas Mohler and Chuck Horton for taking such good care of me!
